Press Release: Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change receives 100 litter bins from Eden Island
The Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate received 100 litter bins in a ceremony
held at the Eden Bleu Hotel on Saturday 19 March 2016, attended by the Minister Didier Dogley, the Principal Secretary of Environment and the Executive Chairman of Eden Island Development Company- Craig
Heeger, the bins were donated on behalf of the Eden Island Development Company and Eden Bleu Hotel to the Ministry.
The donations were similar to the previous 40 litter bins made by Eden Island in 2006 and a further
60 bins in 2009 which could be seen in the vicinity of Victoria and even at the Viewpoint La Misere. In addition to the donated bins, the Executive Chairman of Eden Island Development Company pledged 100 000 bin liners which is equivalent to a 3 year supply for each of the 200 bins donated.
"The Eden Island Village Management Association which manages the
residential estate on Eden Island, has already implemented its own waste
collection efficiency strategies, investigating and implementing ways to
separate refuse for re-cycling" reports Mr. Heeger. In his address Minister Dogley thanked Mr. Heeger and the
Eden Island community for its donation and its continuous support for a Sustainable
Seychelles.
Dispatching some bins to some outer islands such as Praslin as well is under discussion. Changing the mentality
towards littering is an ongoing process and as Minister Dogley pointed out he is looking forward to
seeing the people of Seychelles make good use of the donation.
