In these past few weeks there has been a growing concern about the Plastic Ban which will soon been introduced in the country. Here are a few frequent questions by the public that we would like to address;

1. Does the ban implies to bin liners?

No, there is a popular belief that Bin Liners are included in the Ban no it is not. The ban refers to single use plastic carrier bag which are carrier bags with the intent to be used only once after carrying goods from a point of sale.

2. I import plastic cutlery. When will I stop the importation of the products?

The Ban starts in January 2017 thus you will have to stop importing these products in January however you are able to continuously sell your stock supply until June 2017 as to exhaust it and this is known as the "Grace Period". Starting from June 2017, your products should not be sold on the market.

3. I like to buy my fish at the Victoria Market, what will I use to carry it in?

There are different alternatives for carrying fish. Since Plastic Sheeting Bags (clear see through plastics) is not included in the ban why not wrap it in one of them and place it in a reusable carrier bag for hygiene. One can place the wrapped fish in the plastic sheeting bag in the deep or freezer directly when at home. There are other alternatives and solutions.

4. Why this ban?

According to preliminary findings of waste characterization project recently, 33% of waste which ends up at the landfill is plastic.With the limited resource to extend landfills, plastic takes about 1000 years to disintegrate thus there will be no more space to store them in the future.
